In a bold and unfiltered statement that’s shaking the political landscape, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has declared that some of Northern Nigeria’s most powerful political figures have failed the people they swore to serve.
Speaking during an interview on Arise News and at a high-profile event hosted by the Ahmadu Bello Foundation in Kaduna, Governor Sani pointed fingers at well-known figures like Atiku Abubakar, Kashim Shettima, Nasir El-Rufai, Bukola Saraki, and Sule Lamido. According to him, these leaders—despite holding key offices over the past 20 years—have presided over a region still burdened with poverty, insecurity, and underdevelopment.
🧭 “The North Needs More Than Speeches”
Sani did not mince words.
“We must speak the truth: many of our leaders in the North have let us down. They had the power, the resources, and the platform—but where are the results?” he said.
He emphasised that Northern Nigeria continues to struggle despite years of being politically dominant in the country. The governor challenged Northern elites to own up to their failures instead of always pointing fingers at others.
⚖️ Southern vs. Northern Leadership: A Double Standard?
Sani also raised an important issue of political bias. He observed that many northern elites are quick to criticise President Bola Ahmed Tinubu—a southerner—but remained silent when fellow northerners were at the helm, even when things weren’t working.
“We cannot claim to care about the North while refusing to hold our own leaders accountable,” he argued.
🛑 A Call for Apology and Action
In what some see as a historic turning point, Sani called on his fellow northern politicians to apologise to the people and change course. He urged leaders to move beyond slogans and deliver tangible improvements in education, security, healthcare, and job creation.
🗣️ Why This Matters
This is more than political drama—it’s about the future of a region home to tens of millions of Nigerians. Governor Uba Sani’s words echo the frustration of everyday Northerners who feel betrayed by promises that never materialised.
With poverty, banditry, and youth unemployment still plaguing much of the region, it may be time for Northern leaders to finally put ego aside and deliver the progress they’ve long promised.
