Awon village was thrown into panic on Monday morning, April 20, 2026, after armed bandits launched a violent attack on the community.
According to reports, the attackers, numbering about 30 and riding on approximately 15 motorcycles, entered the village around 9:00 a.m. They split into two groups and began shooting, forcing residents to flee for safety.
The attack resulted in the deaths of two individuals, identified as Joseph Sule and Awilo Madugu.
Seven people are currently unaccounted for following the incident. Those missing include Gift Victor, Hannatu Yusuf, Salina Sam, Silvia Sam, Dogarah Maisamari, Hassana Bulus, and Joy Samaila.
In addition, three girls are still unaccounted for, as some residents who ran into the bush during the attack are yet to return. One person who sustained serious injuries is currently in critical condition and receiving treatment at a hospital.
This incident comes just days after a similar attempt on the community. On Sunday, April 12, 2026, during a church service around 10:00 a.m., bandits approached the village but were repelled by a swift response from the military.
Residents noted that the quick intervention of security forces during today’s attack helped limit the number of casualties. Without their response, the situation could have been far worse.
The repeated attacks have left the community in fear, with residents calling for stronger and more consistent security presence to prevent further violence.
